Swimathon Help

Quick guide for assistants, coaches, and session setup.
Back to Home
This page explains how to log laps, add swimmer identifiers, create and manage sessions, assign swimmers, reorder swimmers, and control session start, stop, and restart.

Lap Logging

How to log laps
  1. Go to Swim Tracking → Lap Logger.
  2. Select the correct Session.
  3. Select the correct Lane.
  4. Find the swimmer in the lane card.
  5. Press Log Lap.

When a lap is logged, the page updates the swimmer’s:

  • Total laps
  • Total distance
  • Last split time

After logging a lap, the swimmer’s lap button enters a short cooldown so accidental double taps do not log again too quickly.

How to add or update identifiers

Identifiers are helpful for quickly spotting swimmers on deck or in the water.

Examples:

  • Red cap
  • Blue goggles
  • Black suit
  1. Find the swimmer card on the lane page.
  2. Type into the Visual Identifier field.
  3. Press Update.
Important notes
  • If the session has not started, lap logging is disabled; however, it is the perfect time to add visual identifiers.
  • If the swimmer has completed the target distance, the lap button changes to completed.
  • If a swimmer is close to the end, the page may highlight them as near finish.

Session Management

Creating a session
  1. Go to Swim Tracking → Sessions.
  2. Select Create Session.
  3. Enter the session details.

Main fields:

  • Name
  • Lanes
  • Scheduled Start
  • Duration
  • Target Distance
  • Pool Length

Optional settings:

  • End when duration complete
  • Enable Pace Time
  • Enable Stroke Count
  • Use Start Interval
  • Public session
Editing a session
  1. Go to Sessions.
  2. Select Edit on the session.
  3. Update the fields you need.
  4. Save the session.
If a session was created from a locked template, some settings may not be editable.
Applying templates
  1. On Create Session, choose a template from the Template dropdown.
  2. Press Apply Template.
  3. The template values will populate the session form.

Templates are useful for quickly creating repeat sessions with the same lane count, duration, distance, pace, stroke count, public setting, and optional start interval settings.

Assignments

Assigning swimmers to lanes
  1. Open the session.
  2. Go to Assignments.
  3. Choose a swimmer for a lane.
  4. Optionally add a display identifier.
  5. Press Assign.

You can also filter swimmers by group before assigning them.

Reordering swimmers in a lane

Use the lane reorder controls to move swimmers up or down inside the lane.

  • This helps organize the lane visually.
  • This is also important if you are using start intervals.
Reordering uses lane order values so swimmers can be arranged safely without duplicate order conflicts.

Start, Stop, and Restart Sessions

Start Session
  • Begins the session
  • Starts the session clock
  • Enables lap logging
Stop Session
  • Stops active logging
  • Preserves current session data
Restart Session
  • Resets the session start state
  • Clears lap logging progress for that session
Ended Sessions
  • Ended sessions should no longer allow logging.
  • The session clock should stop at the actual session end time.
The lane page clock should respect the real session end time instead of continuing to run after completion.

Using Start Intervals

Start intervals let swimmers in the same lane begin one after another using a set number of seconds.

Example with a 10 second interval:

  • Swimmer 1 starts immediately
  • Swimmer 2 starts at +10 seconds
  • Swimmer 3 starts at +20 seconds
  • Swimmer 4 starts at +30 seconds

To use this feature:

  1. Enable Use Start Interval on the session or template.
  2. Set the Start Interval Seconds.
  3. Order swimmers correctly within each lane.

On the lane page, swimmers who are not yet ready should show as waiting until their turn begins.

Quick Tips

  • Create and check sessions before swimmers get in the water.
  • Assign swimmers to the correct lanes before starting.
  • Use identifiers if swimmers are hard to distinguish.
  • Use lane order carefully if you are using start intervals.
  • Restart only if you truly want to reset the session progress.
  • Keep a paper backup during rollout if needed.
